What's the right order to layer skincare products?

What's the right order to layer skincare products?

How you layer skincare products determines how well each one absorbs and works. Apply them in the wrong order and you reduce the effectiveness of everything in your routine.

The Core Rule: Thinnest to Thickest

Apply products from the thinnest consistency to the thickest. Thinner products have smaller molecules and need direct contact with the skin to work. Thicker products sit closer to the surface and seal in everything applied underneath.

The Correct Order

1 — Cleanser

The Sonsie Cleansing Mousse — step one, morning and evening.

2 — Serum

The Sonsie Super Serum — apply to clean skin. Allow 30-60 seconds to absorb.

3 — Barrier Cream

The Sonsie Adapt Cream — after the serum. A small amount is enough — it absorbs well.

4 — Moisturizer

The Sonsie Multi Moisture Cream — seals in everything underneath.

5 — SPF (Morning Only)

Sunscreen goes on last in the morning, after moisturizer. SPF needs to sit on top of the skin to work as a filter.

FAQs

Does the order of skincare products really matter?

Yes. Applying products in the wrong order can significantly reduce how well they absorb. The correct order ensures each product has direct access to the skin.

Should I wait for each layer to dry?

30 to 60 seconds is enough for most products. If a product is still visibly wet when you apply the next one, it can pill or dilute the next step.
