An Update on our Earth Month Initiatives
Wellness isn’t Just Skin Deep
Sonsie has a commitment to promote the health and wellness of our planet. To celebrate Sonsie’s first Earth Month, we took the next step. Building on our initiatives of using recyclable packaging and PCR plastics, Sonsie partnered with rePurpose Global to become Certified Plastic Negative. Through this partnership, we now aid the recovery and ethical processing of twice as much plastic from the environment as our packaging contains.
In April, we expanded our commitment and began a project in the Himalayan foothills.
The Great Himalayan Clean Up
In the foothills surrounding Dehradun, India, once-pristine mountain rivers now carry plastics downstream. This waste disrupts the diverse ecosystems of flora and fauna, impacts local communities, and eventually flows into our oceans. As part of our Plastic Negative initiatives, we worked with rePurpose Global to recover waste from eight sites across the foothills to restore them to their natural grandeur—and for every order placed during Earth Month, we removed an additional pound of plastic waste.
“Now more than ever, we need brands to take responsibility for the global plastic epidemic. We’re proud that Sonsie has taken a positive step towards creating change by becoming certified Plastic Negative with rePurpose Global—enabling the recovery of nature-bound plastic in areas where it is most needed.” —Svanika Balasubramanian (Co-Founder and CEO of rePurpose Global)
One of the aspects we love about our partnership with rePurpose Global is that in addition to caring for our planet, all of the clean-ups empower marginalized waste workers. These impact projects support vital incomes and provide access to an inclusive, safe, and dignified work environment. We believe this kind of holistic approach makes change possible: what’s good for the planet is good for people.
Sonsie is proud to be among the few businesses in the skincare industry to take responsibility for our products’ plastic footprint. Our Plastic Negative certification is an important step in our sustainability plan. We’re far from perfect, and there is more work to do—but as we work to further our green commitment, taking action on our plastic footprint creates meaningful change, right now.
Beyond Earth Month
It’s always been our mission to go beyond healthy skin. Fostering a community of wellness and health includes environmental stewardship—and for Sonsie, this means both sustainable packaging and creating minimalist skincare solutions that are clean, vegan, and cruelty-free. Because in addition to caring for our physical and emotional wellbeing, a minimalist routine is good for the earth: the fewer products we need and use, the less we impact the environment.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
