Down on the Farm
Sonsie goes BEYOND HEALTHY SKIN
Sonsie co-founder Marie Von Behrens-Felipe hosted an intimate event at Hygge Farms, a beautiful oasis in her hometown of Hamburg, earlier this summer. In our continued effort to highlight the relationship between what you put in your body, and what you put on your skin, Sonsie gathered friends of the brand for a delicious lunch made from the fruits and vegetables harvested on the farm. In addition to providing a much-needed respite from the fast pace of our everyday lives, it was an opportunity to foster community and enlighten the team on the many benefits of supporting local farmers, visiting farmer’s markets and dining at farm-to-table establishments.
Guests were treated to an incredible meal and left the event with their SONSIE canvas tote bursting with fresh vegetables and locally pressed Sonsie olive oil. This was the first of many community enhancing events that Sonsie has planned as we continue to champion living mindfully and reducing unnecessary stress and anxiety.
The Benefits of Farm-to-Table
Farm-To-Table restaurants offer a variety of benefits to the individual diner, the surrounding community, and the world at large. These establishments purchase their ingredients directly from the farms where they are grown or raised, eliminating the middleman and ensuring the freshest products are used in making your meal. While the benefits of eating healthy and supporting local businesses are countless, here are just a few to keep in mind when making your next culinary decision:
I Enjoy the Freshest of Foods
Commercially grown fruits and vegetables are engineered to withstand commutes of up to 1500 miles from their origin. Local foods travel a fraction of the distance so they naturally maintain their appearance, taste and nutrients without bio-engineering.
II Support Your Local Ecomony
When you buy from local businesses, you’re putting your money back into your community and supporting the local economy. This support allows the local farmers and farm-to-table restaurants to continue to flourish.
III Take A Stand for the Environment
In addition to actively choosing not to support enormous plants and mass producers, you are avoiding pesticides and harmful chemicals. In addition, food bought locally saves fuel and leads to fewer emissions.
IV Take Advantage of Menus that Change with the Seasons
Restaurants that use ingredients from local farms and producers, offer a rotating menu that is available during certain seasons. This makes for an exciting dining experience where the menu is constantly changing and evolving
V Encourage Ethical Responsibility
Farm-to-Table restaurants may not be the perfect solution to all the negative impacts of factory farming, but they are a step in the right direction. You can make a stand for ethical treatment of animals and against genetically modified produce when you choose to support establishments that use locally grown and produced products.
